Travel

Travel is an important part of my life, and my various overseas experiences have greatly influenced the person that I am today.

The first time I left the country, I was 15. My mom and I went on a month-long tour of Europe that included stops in England, France, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. We booked plane flights and Eurail tickets and made our itinerary as we went. I was hooked.

When I was 17, I spent a week or so in the Bahamas with family and friends. I would love to go back and delve more into the culture, meet more locals, and learn about their everyday lives.

I tried to study abroad in high school, but my parents made me wait until I got to college. So my junior year, I jetted off to England for a semester. Traveling overseas by myself stirred a deep passion for adventure that I still carry with me today.

Less than a year after returning from my semester abroad, I spent a week in Guatemala with an incredible group of people from my university. We stayed with and met numerous locals, helped to start a community garden on the side of a mountain, and practiced our broken Spanish.

The last time I traveled overseas was the summer of 2012. I spent nine weeks in South Korea, interning at a university in Seoul and exploring other wonderful parts of the country.
